11 August 2012

I think i’ve shared this story before. Many years ago i tried to have a post-Christmas party to overcome the fact that i had no one with whom to share Christmas Eve/Day.

No one showed up.  I was devastated, and it was years before i tried to entertain again.

We have lived in this house for 4-1/2 years.  In all that time, every year i have said, "We should have a neighborhood barbeque so that we can meet the neighbors."  But procrastination lives well with us, and it hasn't happened.  This summer i was determined that we should do this, tho.

We met a neighborhood child recently (i think she's probably about 13), and mentioned our intent.   She encouraged us to carry out the project, and so we made fliers and passed them out this week.  I've also spent about $250 on food and preparations.  The barbeque is planned for tomorrow at 4.30.

It has poured buckets of rain with thunder and lightening today; more is scheduled for tomorrow.

Duane and i often laugh about our bad timing.

So, i'm not only afraid no one will show up for all that food i bought, i'm afraid it will pour buckets (again) tomorrow.

Welcome to Sugarbear!

It did occur to me that Jesus told a parable in Matthew 22 where God (a King) gave a party (a wedding feast) and none of the invited guests showed up.

So, i suppose even if no one comes we are in good company.  Tho i admit i'll be disappointed.

Thursday

I'm always so thankful to go home!  :)

Sugarbear and kitties, here we come (in a few hours).

I'm also thankful that i can have CranioSacral Therapy done.  (I've an appointment with Kim this morning.)  I essentially never need meds any more for migraine because i have the CST done regularly.  In fact, i rarely (like once every year or so) take any med any more.  I was in some pain last week, and wondered if i should go buy some ibuprofen, but then i didn't and the pain resolved in a couple of days.  :)  For that i say, thank you, thank you, thank you!  I am so grateful.

I'm so thankful for the opportunity to use natural products.  Wednesday afternoon i began feeling a bit "off."  I can't explain it better (well, i could but it would take a lot of words).  I've been loading up on vitamins (D3 and C) and some of my other pet remedies.  So far it seems to be successful, but i may not know until later today.  Many countries are outlawing the OTC use of vitamins.  I would be very unhappy if i had to see a doc (particularly a MD) in order to take what they think i need.  The fact that we do have access to most natural health products - and the internet to check them out - means so much to me.  :)

Oh, just to go with that, i'm so thankful for Hawkes' Health.  It is a wonderful site/forum where folks post.  It is also a good resource to look up info and/or ask questions of folks on different health issues.  It is wonderful.

Today

I'm thankful we are going home.  Thursday is always a  joy because we are going to Sugarbear & our cats & our "regular" lives.  Two + days in OC is just . . . passing time until we go home.  :)

When we get to the top of Onyx summit, we sing,

Sugarbear . . . Sugarbear . . . Sugarbear . . . Sugarbear!
Sugarbear, aren't we lucky?  Sugarbear we're coming home!

Of course, sometimes Duane adds in other funny lyrics.

I'm also thankful that we have the money to pay our bills.  I wrote the checks for them yesterday.  We are going to be tight for the next week, but we had the money for them.  :)  In the current economy, that is a big deal.

This is the house that Jack built

This is the cheese that lay in the house that Jack built.

This is the rat that ate the cheese
That lay in the house that Jack built.

This is the cat that killed the rat
That ate the cheese
That lay in the house that Jack built.

This is the dog that worried the cat
That killed the rat that ate the cheese
That lay in the house that Jack built.

This is the cow with the crumpled horn
That tossed the dog that worried the cat
That killed the rat that ate the cheese
That lay in the house that Jack built.

This is the maiden all forlorn
That milked the cow with the crumpled horn
That tossed the dog that worried the cat
That killed the rat that ate the cheese
That lay in the house that Jack built.

This is the man all tattered and torn
That kissed the maiden all forlorn
That milked the cow with the crumpled horn
That tossed the dog that worried the cat
That killed the rat that ate the cheese
That lay in the house that Jack built.

This is the priest all shaven and shorn
That married the man all tattered and torn
That kissed the maiden all forlorn
That milked the cow with the crumpled horn
That tossed the dog that worried the cat
That killed the rat that ate the cheese
That lay in the house that Jack built.

This is the cock that crowed in the morn
That waked the priest all shaven and shorn
That married the man all tattered and torn
That kissed the maiden all forlorn
That milked the cow with the crumpled horn
That tossed the dog that worried the cat
That killed the rat that ate the cheese
That lay in the house that Jack built.

This is the farmer sowing his corn
That kept the cock that crowed in the morn
That waked the priest all shaven and shorn
That married the man all tattered and torn
That kissed the maiden all forlorn
That milked the cow with the crumpled horn
That tossed the dog that worried the cat
That killed the rat that ate the cheese
That lay in the house that Jack built.

This is the horse and the hound and the horn
That belonged to the farmer sowing his corn
That kept the cock that crowed in the morn
That waked the priest all shaven and shorn
That married the man all tattered and torn
That kissed the maiden all forlorn
That milked the cow with the crumpled horn
That tossed the dog that worried the cat
That killed the rat that ate the cheese
That lay in the house that Jack built.

                            Mother Goose Nursery Rhyme

Our "main" bathroom is on the ground floor.  It is very small.  The upstairs bath is currently only a half bath.  It is our intent to expand it eventually, but that won't be happening soon.

We don't plan anything big for the downstairs bath because we won't use it much once we've remodeled upstairs.  I would like to put a new vanity, sink, & counter top in there, eventually, but we don't plan a complete overhaul (taking out the very old tub/shower).

It is our main bath now & it has very little room in it.

In thinking about how i might be able to add some storage space in there, i was thinking we could build some narrow shelves behind the door.  Duane does a great job with shelves.

But then i thought that if i do that, i'll want to paint first.  But, of course, if we paint first, we have to repair a few cracks in the drywall.

And if we repair & paint drywall, i'd really like to replace the molding/trim in there.

But if i replace the molding/trim, i'd want to put a new floor down, too.  As the floor space is only about 15 square feet, it wouldn't be too much.

But then, we'd want under the tile floor heater, & for only 15 square feet, that won't be too much, either.

But if we're replacing the floor, the toilet has to come up, & so while we are doing that, we might as well replace the vanity, sink, & counter at the same time.

If we're doing that, then a new medicine cabinet with a bit more storage makes sense too . . .

And we can't have all that done without giving it new lighting (what is in there now is quite old & dim).

All so that i could have a few shelves for a little bit more storage.

It wouldn't have to be too expensive.  I figure we could do it for about $1000, maybe less if i kept an eye on Craigslist.  Still . . . that is a lot of money for a few shelves!

More of Sugarbear

If you can stand it! I do love taking pics of our place!

Nearly ripe peaches. They are pretty small. The egg, for size, is a regular egg. The peach was edible, but a little on the hard side. I imagine when we get home Thursday we will need to start picking peaches. Now what am i going to do with all of these? I like them fresh! i suppose i'll freeze some. And share with neighbors.

This pic is better when you enlarge it. My mother said that these apples are MacIntosh. I'll have to take her word for it. They are about the size of a tennis ball. Birds have gotten a lot of them. My stomach doesn't tolerate fresh apples well, i have to have them cooked. But i think i can prepare & freeze these & have them ready for pies. And more to share. :) We have more of the deep blue sky today. It doesn't show well in pics.

And! Hurray! And thanks to my sis! The trim on Sugarbear is finally done. :) Duane & i had nearly completed the upstairs part (around the upper deck) but it needed touch ups. She did that & finished the downstairs beams. Also, the garage trim needed another coat & she did that too.

It looks so pretty & finished to me. :)

Have someone coming for massage soon. I need to go. Hope everyone is having a lovely day. (In edit mode. The pic placement is giving me problems. Click on the small pic images to get them to go to the proper size.)
